23rd - 28th March 2026

This trip was virtually a repeat of a holiday we had in Lisbon in 2007..... and it was hard to believe that was 19 years ago! Lisbon had experienced almost 4 months of rain up until the week before we arrived, but we were blessed with warm, sunny weather and clear blue skies for the whole time we were there. We covered much the same ground that we did in 2007, except that due to the passage of time the walking distances seemed longer and the hills steeper! We walked over 50 km in the few days that we were there, which is quite incredible.

Praça da Alegria

The Jardim Alfredo Keil (in Praça da Alegria) is a small public garden named after the romantic composer and painter. Set on a terrace, the garden features exotic vegetation and a pond with a fountain. On the west side of the garden is a bust of Alfredo Keil (1850-1907), a musician, painter and poet. He is best remembered as the composer of the music for A Portuguesa, the Portuguese national anthem.

José Martí (born January 28, 1853, Havana, Cuba—died May 19, 1895, Dos Ríos) was a Cuban poet and essayist, patriot and martyr, who became the symbol of Cuba’s struggle for independence from Spain. His dedication to the goal of Cuban freedom made his name a synonym for liberty throughout Latin America.
